Special Projects - NAPA Truck
This 1999 Chevy Pickup was delivered to our shop with
only eight miles on the odometer. That's when all the fun began. Just

The only thing that had been done to that point was the installation of the new
American Racing Rims and the Goodyear Eagle tires with raised yellow letters.
Notice this particular truck was equipped with the chrome
grille and bumpers as well as the side moldings and wheel opening moldings. These
would all be lost to the clean look that is preferred on today's sport trucks.
The truck was torn down and all the trim was removed.
Note the door handles, mirrors, grille, and bumpers were all removed to ensure a quality
job when the new color was applied.
The bed was removed so the back cab panel and bed front panel
could be refinished with the new color.
Fresh from the paint booth, both of the new colors have been
applied. A two-stage basecoat/clearcoat finish was used. The product used was
Martin-Senour paint which is the NAPA
private label manufactured by Sherwin-Williams.
The truck and the bed were painted in separate booths.
Here the bed has been refinished. Notice the interior of
the bed has been sanded and prepped for refinish as well. The interior of the bed
will be refinished with a product called Zolatone. This will give a speckled durable
finish that will hold up better and not show damage as easily as the factory finish.
Notice the front bed panel has been refinished in both colors
to ensure a quality job. The tailgate was refinished while hanging on a rack at the
same time the bed was refinished.
The bed has been reinstalled and work on the grille and
bumpers is almost complete.
The bumpers required a little creativity because the actual
NASCAR truck really doesn't have bumpers in the traditional sense.
Bumpers and grille are completed and installed. Now the
NASCAR decal package needs to be installed.
The decals were applied in several separate sessions.
The main NAPA decals were all installed the first time around.
Then the vendor specific decals were applied when NAPA decided
on the final layout.
Notice the bed cap. It was included to give the truck a
more authentic NASCAR/Sport truck appearance.
The windows were tinted with the darkest legal tint
available.
Decals...
Decals...
And more Decals.... We had to include the Jack's Paint
Place logo. Didn't we? Actually our logo found its way onto the truck in
three separate locations.
Mission Accomplished. The rear shackles
on the suspension were swapped out to lower the rear of the truck two inches. This helped
enhance that NASCAR/Sport truck appearance. The lucky winner was so pleased with the
final product that he tracked us down and called us the day after he won the truck.
