Northeast area Fire Departments receive State-of-the-Art
Thermal Imaging Camera
The eleven Fire Departments supporting Converse, Universal City,
Kirby, Schertz, Cibolo, Marion, Live Oak, Garden Ridge, Windcrest,
Camelot and Randolph Air Force Base, will now be trained and have
access to a state-of-the-art Thermal Imaging Camera. The camera was
donated by Jacks Paint Place, Inc. Collision Service Center
in Converse, as a gesture of gratitude, to the members of all the
area communities, for their outstanding support for the last fifteen
years. The equipment will be maintained and provided to the other
departments by the Converse Volunteer Fire Department.
"We have enjoyed continual growth since starting out in 1983
and want to give something back to the community for the continual
patronage from all our loyal customers," said Jack Holbrook,
President of Jacks Paint Place, Inc.. "This equipment will
give area Fire and Police Departments another tool to effectively
assist in providing for the health and safety of the community and
the public servants themselves," Holbrook said.
The camera, an International
Safety Instruments (ISI) Vision 3, works on the principal of infrared
heat detection. The camera is not blinded by such conditions as heavy
smoke or darkness. This makes the camera especially useful for locating
victims in burning buildings, locating hot spots in walls and in locating
missing persons in heavy brush conditions during the day or night
time. The camera is waterproof, shock resistant and has a high temperature
barrier so that it is not affected by the adverse conditions found
in fires. With the new BST technology the camera provides the clearest
picture with digital saturation control and digital temperature stabilization.
This reduces the sudden whiteout of the screen when the camera is
aimed toward direct flames. This allows for a much quicker location
of victims in rooms where flames are found.
Local Fire Departments should begin training on the Vision 3 within
the next few days. And the camera is available for use where needed
at this time. "To the best of our knowledge, this is the first
camera with this "advanced" technology in the South Texas
area," said Chief Jack Dougherty of the Converse Volunteer Fire
Department. "We are very fortunate to have friends like the Holbrooks
and Jacks Paint Place in this area who are so in tune to the needs
of the community and have such giving hearts," Chief Dougherty
said.
